Taking Heat

Posted on Monday, July 5, 2010 in Mandarin

We’re experiencing simultaneous heat waves in the US and China. It’s very unpleasant for those without decent air conditioners.

Because the heat is making us lethargic, we’re giving you a Mandarin Monday post dedicated to this weather.

Heat wave: 热浪 (rè làng)

The heat wave broke my air conditioner.

这热浪毁掉我的空调。

zhè rè làng huǐdiào wǒde kōngtiáo。

  1. I’d heatwave if I could…
Seethe out of trillions of liters
Of unspent water, gathers my force
And mix with a sullen rain
    Forms a sea-conditioned unit
That has the memory of stars
To bring you the shock of cool
    That gushes through your body
And your feet waiting for me
To go and another one coming.
